Administration

The Nevada Regional Educator Resource Center (NRERC) is a part of the NASA Educator Resource Center Network, an education program designed to disseminate educational materials to teachers. Through the use of these multimedia resources, teachers can provide students with the latest in aerospace information, serving as a springboard for classroom discussion across the curriculum. Most of the NRERC's resources are contributed by NASA's Central Operation of Resources for Educators (CORE). NASA CORE, a nonprofit organization, is the worldwide distribution center for NASA's audiovisual educational materials. CORE brochures are available at the NRERC.

Teachers, students, and teachers-in-training are encouraged to utilize the NRERC and its resources to enhance understanding of historic and current space-related topics. Some examples of the wide spectrum of subjects available are: astronomy, art, social sciences, physical sciences, technology utilization, energy, earth studies, careers, aeronautics, and mathematics. The resources are available in a variety of formats including posters, lithographs, lesson guides, activity guides, slide/audio programs, computer programs, and videotapes.

All the public domain items at the NRTRC are available for dissemination or duplication. If the NRERC has multiple originals of a particular resource, it will be distributed for free. If the NRTRC only possesses one original, then the resource will be copied. Usually, requests for materials can be processed within a week.

Once the item is distributed or copied, it is the property of the individual who requests it. The NRERC does not loan out its resources.

The services of the NRTRC are free and intended for non-profit educational purposes only. The patrons of the NRERC are expected to bring their own source materials for duplication. However, if the visitor cannot supply his/her own duplication materials, the NRERC can provide them at a nominal fee. The fees are subject to change depending upon operational costs of the NRERC. The current fees are as follows: Videotapes - $5.00; Computer Disks - $3.00; Xerox Copies - 5 cents/page; Cassette Tapes - $1.00; Slides - 30 cents each. It is actually cheaper to order the slide programs directly from NASA CORE. Therefore, the slide programs, as well as copyrighted materials, will serve mainly preview purposes. The guest can then decide to purchase the product from its manufacturer. It is preferable for patrons of the NRERC to come visit the center to pick up requested materials. However, because of our commitment to reach all areas of Nevada, dissemination through the mail is possible. Unfortunately, sending materials through the mail is not very cost-effective. The NRTRC asks all local (Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson) patrons to please come in to the NRTRC to acquire resources. Patrons of the NRERC can request materials by letter, visit, phone call, Email, or through the World Wide Web. The address of the NRERC is:

NASA/Nevada Regional Educator Resource Center
College of Southern Nevada - S2A
3200 E. Cheyenne Avenue

The NRERC is located in Room 2025B of the Cheyenne campus of CSN. The operating hours of the NRERC are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Friday by appointment only.
