ADMISSIONS, REGISTRATION AND PAYMENTS
Students Registering for
Distance Education Classes
If a distance education class is full, you must contact the
instructor by email for permission to register for the class.
You can locate the instructor’s email address by going the
Distance Education page on the CCSN web site. When
emailing the instructor please include your first and last
name, social security number, “C" number, class name and
call number.
If the instructor gives you permission to enroll in the
class, the instructor will forward the information to the
Distance Education department for processing. If you regis-
ter after the semester has started it may take up to 48 hours
before you have access to the course. The instructor will
also notify the student that they have permission to enroll in
the class.
Payment will be due within three days of adding the class.
Auditing Classes
Students who wish to enroll for no grade may register as
an auditor. Students must register in person at any of the
three main campuses. An auditor will pay regular fees and
tuition and must, at the discretion of the instructor, meet all
regular class requirements. Students who audit a course will
receive a grade of “AU" for that course and it will be
entered as such on the student’s academic record.
Changing from audit to credit or from credit to audit must
be done by filing the necessary forms before the end of the
eighth week of instruction in a regular semester and before
the end of the third week of instruction in a summer session.
In all cases, in courses in which the first scheduled meeting
is after the time periods stated above, a change to or from an
audit shall be permitted prior to the initial meeting.
Forms for changing audit status must be processed
through the Office of the Registrar. All request for status
change after semester grades are posted must go through
the Grade Appeal Process, see Academic Policies and
Procedures / Grades and Academic Progress.
Concurrent Enrollment
CCSN permits students to register for courses concurrent-
ly with another institution subject to these regulations:
• Each student who plans a concurrent registration is per-
sonally responsible for obtaining the advance written
approval of the home institution to assure the course(s)
are applicable toward satisfying degree requirements.
• The maximum combined concurrent registration load
in any one semester is determined by the student’s
home institution offering the degree or program.
Nevada Senior Citizens
Nevada residents 62 or older may audit or register for
credit in any course (subject to availability) without paying
tuition fees. You will be required to pay the one-time, non-
refundable $5.00 application fee charged to all new students
and any other applicable course fees.
DISTANCE EDUCATION
What is Distance Education.
Distance Education courses are offered through video,
interactive video, or online. Distance Education courses are
a convenient and effective way to learn if you are SELF-
MOTIVATED AND DISCIPLINED. All distance education
courses are listed in the printed class schedule and are
available online through the Community College of
Southern Nevada’s web site at www.ccsn.edu.
How Do Distance Education Courses Differ
from On-Campus Courses.
Distance Education faculty follow the same required cur-
riculum as faculty do in on-campus classes. Students must
complete the same materials and assignments with similar
deadlines as students do in class. Students do have access to
course materials 24 hours a day 7 days a week so they can
work on the class when it fits their schedule. Students will
still have deadlines to complete and submit assignments to
their instructors.
Distance Education Success
Participation in Distance Education online courses
requires Internet access, computer skills, Internet usage
skills, and an email address. If you are not familiar with and
comfortable using the Internet, then online courses may not
be appropriate for you. Distance Education courses may
require more time and effort for a student to be successful
than traditional on-campus classes.
Distance Education Fee:
$10.00 per Distance Education course in addition to
tuition and technology fee.
