The faculty members of the Art & Art History Program, in keeping with Institutional goals, share a belief that their instruction is founded on a two-fold mission. First, that a broad disciplined curricula provide a foundations study in art to prepare students for advanced studies and/or career in art. The second goal is to prepare students to employ art as a vehicle for life enrichment and personal expression.
Program goals include:
Students know how to apply art fundamentals to the production of art.
Students proficient in various production techniques as they apply their selected medium.
Students can verbalize the content, context, and creative forces used in the production of their art.
Students value and are open to the differences in the creative process of other artists and cultures.

Students can apply critical thinking skills in the production and analysis of works of art.
Students can create art that demonstrates strong foundational skills in the application of technique.
Students can articulate orally and through written responses to works of art using appropriate language of art.
Students can demonstrate knowledge of the artistic practices and cultural contexts of a variety of artistic traditions.
