Application Development and System Selection

We can help satisfy campus system needs. When a client identifies a need, our first step in identifying potential solutions is to thoroughly document the client's functional requirements from both management and operational perspectives. After clearly defining requirements, we research a variety of options and provide a written analysis designed to facilitate selection of the best solution given the functional requirements as well as the project's timing and financial constraints. This analysis includes an evaluation of existing commercial, open source solutions, solutions developed by other universities and/or custom development options.

If the client decision is to adopt a vendor application, we assist in selecting a product that will best fulfill functional objectives and project constraints as well as industry standards. When the decision is to "build," we offer consulting and custom application development using standards-based design, programming, and quality assurance practices. Related activities include technical project management, mapping of business processes to new systems, configuring application settings and base tables, programming system interfaces with external systems, and providing training and documentation for users.
