Academics

Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD)

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree and the Certificate of Achievement in CADD Technology provide training necessary for individuals to plan, prepare and interpret construction documents. The computer aided drafting and design (CADD) program includes courses in CADD software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, Land Development Desktop, Civil-3D, Revit, and SolidWorks. Students enrolling in the program will learn to use CADD workstations along with the software commands and procedures necessary to produce construction and fabrication drawings typically found in industry. CADD standards, an introduction to equipment maintenance, and an introduction to production techniques are presented to the student.

What Industries Uses CADD?

  • Aeronautical industry
  • Architectural industry
  • Civil industry
  • Electrical industry
  • Electronic industry
  • Government Agencies
  • Mechanical industry
  • Process piping or pipeline industry
  • Opportunities should be best for individuals who have at least 2 years of postsecondary training using CAD.

Nature of Work

  • Most drafters now use computer-aided drafting and Design (CADD) systems to prepare drawings. Consequently, they are referred to as CADD operators. CADD systems employ computer workstations to create drawings. The drawings are stored electronically so that revisions or duplications can be made easily. These systems also Permit drafters to easily and quickly prepare variations in a design. Although many drafters use CADD extensively, it is only a tool. Persons who produce technical drawings using CADD still need to employ hand drafting skills from time to time. Moreover, the knowledge of traditional drafters relating to drafting skills and standards is fundamental to one’s success in the drafting field regardless of whether or not they work exclusively on a CADD workstation.
