Environmental Safety & Health
The Associate of Applied Science Degree and a Certificate of Achievement in Environmental Safety and Health provides and opportunity for students to acquire knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to obtain jobs in this growing environmental field. Instruction includes course work in hazardous materials management, environmental health and safety, laws and regulations, sampling and analysis, treatment and disposal, site assessment, transportation, waste minimization, and computer application.
The program has three main emphasis, Environmental Resource Technology, Water and Wastewater Treatment, and Safety Management.
- Environmental Resource Technology focuses on the growing environmental concern and mediation resources necessary to protect our environment. Classes focus on identifying the problem, analyzing the problem, and providing solutions to the problem. In addition, students are encouraged to focus on “real-world” problems and research solutions to those problems.
- Water Treatment looks at the major problem of water pollution and treatment. Classes are generally held at the Clark County Sanitation District and instructors work closely with the problems that may face the Clark County water supply. In addition, students are given the opportunity to conduct hands-on analysis and sampling of local water in order to gain an excellent level of competence for water treatment and analysis.
- Safety Management examines the crucial role of safety manager and OSHA compliance. In addition to specified safety management courses, students are required to understand Industrial Hygiene and Risk Management. Classes focus on understanding the safety manager, OSHA standards and regulations, and Industrial Hygiene. Courses can lead to certification from nationally know safety organizations.
