Welding Technology

The Welding Technology program at the College of Southern Nevada, recognized by the American Welding Society as a S.E.N.S.E. affiliate educational institution and Sustaining Company Member, offers both a one year Certificate of Achievement and a two year A.A.S. degree.

Focusing on the most widely used techniques and processes used in industry, such as SMAW, GMAW, FCAW and GTAW, including courses in Non Destructive Testing, Fabrication, Blueprint and Welding Symbols, AWS D1.1 Codebook and Certified Welding Inspector Preparation, graduating students will have a comprehensive and complete understanding of all major welding processes and have the opportunity to be recognized nationally as AWS Entry or Advanced Level welders, depending on their choice of study.

On-line Registration

WELD 131B Blueprint Reading, Layout and Sketching

Provides instruction in the interpretation, reading and understanding of blueprints, drawings, weld symbols, fabrication layout and free hand sketching commonly used in the welding trade. 3 Credits.

WELD 133B SMAW(Stick)

Provides classroom and laboratory instruction in skill development and proficiency of Shielded Metal ArcWelding of mild steel plate in all positions. 4 Credits.

WELD 134B GTAW(Tig)

Provides classroom and laboratory instruction in the proper techniques, skill development and proficiency of GTAWelding of mild steel, aluminum and stainless steel gage material in various positions. 4 Credits.

WELD 135B GMAW(Mig)

Provides classroom and laboratory instruction in the proper techniques, skill development and proficiency of GMAW of mild steel and aluminum in various positions. 2 Credits.

WELD 137B FCAW(Flux Core)

Provides classroom and laboratory instruction in the proper techniques, skill development and proficiency of FCAW-S and FCAW-G of mild steel in various positions. 2 Credits.

WELD 154B D1.1 Structural Welding Code

Provides extensive classroom instruction on the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code, covering topics such as Procedure Qualification Records, Weld Procedure Specifications, welded connections, fabrication and inspection. 3 Credits.

WELD 214B Fabrication Layout

Provides instruction on basic fabrication principles, safety, measurement, layout techniques using blueprints and weld symbols and the use of common fabrication tools and associated equipment. Prerequisites: WELD 131B, 132B,  133B or instructor approval. 3 Credits.

WELD 218B Pipe Welding Procedures

Provides instruction on the proper techniques, skill development and proficiency of pipe welding using SMAW fillet and pipe groove welds on plate/pipe in all positions. Prerequisite: WELD 133B or instructor approval. 4 Credits.

WELD 240B Advanced GTAW

Provides instruction on the proper techniques and skill development of advanced GTAW with emphasis on pipe fillet and groove welds on plate/pipe in various positions. 4 Credits.
