    • know local and international building codes and laws, building materials.
    • Work from blueprints or instruction from supervisors.
    • Accurately work with levels, rules, plumb bobs, and framing squares.
    • Possess technical knowledge, experience and education.
    • Courses in codes, blueprint reading, computers, Spanish and English are useful
  • ICBO Certifications
  • Inspector and Plans Examiner Certification from National Recognized Agencies
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program
  • Along with on the job experience

Provides an overview of the principles, design and materials of electrical systems and emphasizes the format and use of the National Electric Code. Course is oriented towards NEC certification preparation. Prerequisite: BI 100B. 3 Credits.

BI 107 - Introduction to the Energy Conservation Code

This course is for students needing a basic knowledge for energy conservation. Course will include: R-value for ceiling, wall, floor and door efficiency, U-factor for window efficiency, HVAC efficiency, water conservation efficiency and green building construction. 1 Credit.

BI 201 - Capstone Course IBC/IRC

An overview of the International Building Code and of the International Residential Code requirements. Graduating students’ strengths and weaknesses will be evaluated by a proficiency exam for the IBC and the IRC or students shall furnish proof of IBC and IRC certifications. The grading method for the Capstone Course is pass/fail and it is an independent study course. Prerequisite: Instructor permission. 1 Credit.
