Audio podcasts are in MP3 file format. To create podcasts, we recommend using Audacity for recording and editing the software. Audacity is a free, open source software that works cross-platform. You will need an additional installation to make MP3 files. You will need the LAME encoder which is downloaded from a separate site. The very first time that you use Audacity to export a MP3 you will need to map Audacity to the location of the LAME encoder.
Vodcasts, or video podcasts, need to be in MPEG-4 file format with the dimensions of 320x240 (preferred size). There are a variety of ways to produce MPEG-4 files. Contact Academic Technologies for more information.
Screencasts are created in Camtasia. CSN has a site license for Camtasia, start by calling the Help Desk to get Camtasia installed. Screencasts can include PowerPoint presentations or capture any content from your computer screen. See example of screencast.
Once you have the content, you will also need RSS feeds and a web page to host the files on. As a creator of RSS feeds, you will want to use FeedForAll or FeedBurner. These tools will make creating your code simple. You can code an RSS feed by hand using an HTML editor. The web page can be created in the HTML editor of your choice (Dreamweaver, FrontPage, Word, Course Genie)
