HENDERSON – It won't be much longer that you'll start hearing the crack of the bat at Morse Stadium.
The College of Southern Nevada Coyotes' 2008 spring baseball schedule has been released, and with it comes plenty of expectations of how well the team will do in their 2008 campaign.
"We are loaded with talent," says Tim Chambers, head baseball coach and Athletic Director. "We've landed some of the best players in the country for our 2008 recruiting class, and I think we'll be quite competitive."
Also released was the Coyotes' 2007 fall baseball scrimmage schedule. The fall season gets underway on Sept. 22 against the Las Vegas Cardinals, a local scout team made up of the top high school baseball players in the Las Vegas area. Their short 16-game season includes one tournament the Coyotes will host, and it will also feature one trip. CSN travels to Yavapai College in Prescott, Ariz., the first weekend of October.
CSN begins their 9th season of intercollegiate baseball on Friday, Jan. 25, as the Coyotes host the 2nd Annual Coyote Border Battle. CSN teams up with Salt Lake Community College as the Scenic West Athletic Conference takes on the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference. Representing the ACCAC this year will be Cochise College of Douglas, Ariz., and GateWay Community College of Phoenix.
The Coyotes then host the 9th Annual CSN Coyote Classic, featuring Yavapai College (Ariz.), Arizona Western College, Fullerton College (Calif.) and 2007 national champion Chipola College (Fla.). CSN takes on the defending national champs at 3 p.m. on Feb. 1, so mark your calendars! CSN then travels to Marianna, Fla., to play in a tournament hosted by Chipola College on Feb. 8-10. Following that, CSN comes back home to host the 7th Annual Coyote Slugout, with newcomer Miami-Dade College (Fla.) highlighting the tournament field of seven.
CSN takes on their rivals from up north on Feb. 29 and Mar. 1 in Carson City, and host Western Nevada College Apr. 4 and 5.
The regular season runs through the first weekend of May, with the Region XVIII Championships scheduled for May 7-10 at the site of the regular-season champion. It will all be played at one site this year, just as it was in 2006.
