ST. GEORGE, Utah – The 13th-ranked College of Southern Nevada softball team opened up Scenic West Athletic Conference play on Wednesday with a doubleheader sweep of North Idaho College, winning 5-4 and 4-2 at The Fields at Little Valley Softball Complex in St. George.
In the first game, CSN (5-2, 2-0 SWAC) came back from an early 4-1 deficit thanks in part to Evelyn Terrazas' big day at the plate. She was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to help lead the comeback.
Mandy Tapia (3-2) was successful in the circle and at the plate. She tossed a complete game, striking out six and walking four. At the plate, Tapia went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
In the nightcap, Terrazas went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in the second inning that gave the Coyotes a 2-0 lead. The Cardinals (2-7, 0-2) tied the game in the bottom half of the second, but CSN pulled away from there for the win.
Janice Damo (2-0) went the distance, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out 12 and walking three.
CSN and NIC wrap up the series with another twinbill, set for Thursday at noon PST in St. George.
