CoyotesThe College of Southern Nevada Coyotes added to their elite list of athletes who have been drafted by Major League Baseball.

This year's MLB amateur draft featured five CSN players, three of them pitchers.

On the first day of the draft, sophomore catcher/outfielder Braeden Schlehuber was the first to go in the fourth round, selected by the Atlanta Braves as the 130th overall pick.  Schlehuber hit .332 with five home runs for the Coyotes as a sophomore.

"With his athletic ability, Braeden can play pretty much anywhere on the field," CSN coach Tim Chambers said.  "He's very athletic, and he can run.  He's a really good prospect."

Colby ShreveSophomore pitcher Colby Shreve followed as a sixth-round selection by the Philadelphia Phillies, 196th overall, and sophomore outfielder Devin Shepherd was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 11th round as the 335th overall pick.

Shreve, a 6-foot-5-inch right-hander who was drafted in the eighth round by the Braves last year, turned down a $125,000 signing bonus and elected to return to CSN for his sophomore season.  As a sophomore, Shreve was 5-1 with a 2.30 ERA in a shortened season due to an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery.

"I believe he'll pitch in the big leagues," Chambers said.  "Colby certainly would have gone in the first two rounds if he didn't get hurt.  His work ethic is as good as any player who's ever come through our program."

Taylor ColeThe second day of selections included a pair of freshman.  Right-hander Taylor Cole (Arizona Diamondbacks, 31st round) and left-handed pitcher Egan Smith (Cleveland Indians, 35th round) were drafted.  Smith chose to stay at CSN for his sophomore season, and Cole went on a Mormon mission.

Three local high school players that are now incoming freshman at CSN were also drafted.  First baseman Marvin Campbell (Las Vegas High) was selected in the 31st round by the Florida Marlins.  Silverado outfielder Jordan Keegan was selected in the 36th round by the Chicago White Sox, and Coronado outfielder Andrew Gans was taken by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 39th round.
