Robert Fuhrel

Professor

Robert Fuhrel, professor of English and former poetry editor of Red Rock Review, taught in community colleges, public and private high schools, and state prisons in Florida, Colorado, American Samoa, and Hawai'i before coming to Las Vegas in 1992. A native of Philadelphia, he was educated at the University of Florida and has done additional study at Indiana University, Florida State University, the University of Hawai'i, and U.N.L.V.

Bob's interests besides literature include Polynesian language and culture, Irish politics, tennis, baseball, and horseshoes. On sabbatical in spring of 2001, Bob visited Ireland to study contemporary Irish drama for a course in Irish literature that was offered Spring 2002. He will be on sabbatical in Spring 2008 and plans to return to Ireland to complete work for a revised Irish Literature class. He also teaches a variety of composition courses, introductory courses in poetry and short fiction, and a course in Bob Dylan, and he believes Bob Dylan deserves to be declared a living national treasure.

Bob has survived prostate cancer for almost ten years, and he is willing to discuss his experience if it will help anyone.
