Alpha Xi Beta Chapter Board Members
 |
President: Lindsay Stewart
My name is Lindsay Stewart and I am the current Chapter President of Alpha Xi Beta. I was raised in California and Utah, got married, and moved back to California. After three tours of active duty, my husband was then discharged from the Marines, and we decided to settle here in Las Vegas. Where we go from here is always in question, but we love the experience it brings. I am a workaholic and I love working in the dental field but I realize change is necessary to grow. Currently my major is Criminal Justice with my emphasis being in Law. I hope one day to make a difference by working with the State and eventually becoming a District Attorney. I came to CSN in the fall of 2007 with hopes of doing well and getting into a great law school. Since I joined Alpha Xi Beta, first as a member, I realized that this experience has not only made me aware of our school and community but of my own personal growth. I have gained so much more than I could have ever imagined. I look forward to the 2009-10 school year and hope to see all the current and future members in the fall and spring semesters.

Vice President: Dustin Rains
According to Merriam Webster, “a leader is a person who has commanding authority or influence.” I would never classify myself as a natural born leader, but I have developed various leadership skills throughout my life thus far.
Dustin Rains was born December 20, 1981 in Wilmington, Ohio, a small town with nothing but cows and cornfields surrounding it. He was the first born son to Cathy Rains and was soon thereafter the oldest of four. Throughout his childhood, he continued to grow up in Blanchester, Ohio attending Pre-school through twelfth grade. In his high school years, he had many accomplishments with being in National Honor Society, being nominated for Who’s Who among America’s High School Students, being Vice President his junior year and President of his class his Senior Year. He was also involved in Soccer, International Club, Theatre, and FCCLA.
Soon after graduation, Dustin knew there was life outside of the small town and found himself searching for something more to fulfill his life. In 2002, Dustin enrolled in Humana People to People, an international volunteer program that sends people all across the world. He went to Mozambique, Africa for one year to teach English and HIV/AIDS education. During this trip, he was really able to grasp the roles of leadership and understand the concept of it.
While working various jobs, he was still in search for a path he was happy with. He knew he couldn’t settle so he made another move to Las Vegas in 2006. Shortly thereafter, he enrolled at CSN to fulfill his dream of becoming an Interior Designer. Being in Las Vegas has provided him an opportunity in both in personal and professional life and has allowed him to succeed in various aptitudes. He looks forward to finishing his degree at CSN and moving forward to Columbia or George Washington University.

Public Relations Officer: Stew Wenk
I have been active in Alpha Xi Beta since 2007 and can’t have asked for better people to associate with. As a member, and now chapter officer, my experience with Phi Theta Kappa has been nothing but rewarding. Good times, great friends and helping out others; it is a win-win situation all around. I hope to extend this into my future as I pursue a degree in Theater with the intent of becoming a comedic actor, writer and improviser. And I am honored by being able to give back to the chapter and organization that has gotten me closer to my dreams. Go PTK!

Secretary: Brironni Alex
My name is Brironni Alex and I am running for secretary of the Alpha Xi Beta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. I have been attending CSN since the fall semester of 2006 and have been a member of Phi Theta Kappa since the fall semester of 2007. I would like to run due to the fact that I have seen many relationships built over the past semester and I would love to continue to maintain those and build additional relationships on the board. Since the Alpha Xi Beta chapter holds a five-star status, I will proudly uphold and maintain this status by performing my secretarial duties to the best of my ability.

Historian: Shara Hinden
My name is Shara Hinden, and I have been a CSN student since 2006. I was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa in 2007. It is a great honor for me to represent the College of Southern Nevada through my efforts in Phi Theta Kappa. As the newly elected Historian, I am optimistic that I, as well as my fellow Phi Theta Kappans, will positively represent our faculty and community in leadership, education, and service. As for myself, I am majoring in Secondary Education with an emphasis on Social Studies. When I am finished with my Bachelors in Secondary Education, I would love to teach History in inner-city schools, and possibly work my way up to a professorship and a PhD.

Member At Large: Abegel Freedman
Phi Theta Kappa’s mission is to promote academic achievement and personal growth through participation of honors, leadership, service, and fellowship. The goals Phi Theta Kappa promotes are goals I actively encourage myself to achieve, as well as others around me. I am currently a part time student pursuing a biochemistry degree. I enjoy learning and am looking forward to being a professional student. Another passion I have is promoting and participating in community service events that range from commyinty outreach to athletic competitions that promote healthy lifestyles. I am excited to be part of the 2009-2010 Alpha Xi Beta board and am confident that we can uphold and further the legacy that the past boards have bestowed upon us.
