Are You Considering Becoming a Tutor?
Those who become tutors often realize that they gain far more form the experience than just a salary.

- Closer relationships with faculty and staff members
- Flexible work schedule.
Qualifications of Tutor Applicants:
- Have at least 12 hours of undergraduate work with an earned overall college grade point average of at least 3.2. Under special circumstances a Cum GPA of 3.0 will be considered.
- Have earned an A grade or a high B in the subject applying to tutor.
- Demonstrate during the interview good communication and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work with students from varied backgrounds and skill levels
- Provide a signed reference from a faculty member (preferably from CSN) teaching the subject wishing to tutor.
- Having previous tutorial experience in subject matter is a definite plus.
When selecting a tutor, there must also be enough of a demand for the subject(s) to warrant hiring a tutor.
Tutor Application Process:
- Complete a tutor application and faculty reference form.
- Obtain official transcripts for review.
- Submit the completed packet (application, reference, and transcripts) to Tutorial Services on the campus you prefer to work from.
- Application Packet will be sent for certification to the Department Chair of the discipline(s) you are requesting to tutor (or to another designated college official determined by Tutorial Services).
- If you become certified, you will be contacted to set up an interview with either the Coordinator of Tutorial Services or with the Coordinator of the Science & Math Resource Center, depending on the discipline you want to tutor.
- After the interview, you will be notified of the outcome.
Once hired, tutors are required to undergo training that provides knowledge and practical skills necessary to become an effective tutor. Training takes place prior to the first assignment and concurrently while tutoring. For more information please contact Tutorial Services:
