International Development

One of CSN strategic goals is to celebrate diversity and multiculturalism, internationalize curriculum, student life and campus culture. To accomplish this, the College expands its international education offerings, exchanges, offers a degree in global studies, and promotes cultural and ethnic events.

The guiding principles for CSN internationalization are: S.C.R. 38 (Nevada Resolution on International Education May 12, 2005), NSHE Master Plan of Education, NWCCU accreditation standards, Board of Regents Policy, CSN Strategic Plan, AACC and ACCT Joint Statement on Internationalization, and ACE guidelines for accountable and effective internationalization.

The Joint Statement by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) states: “Community colleges should develop strategic plans for global awareness and competence that respond to the need of the community’s learners, businesses, and institutions.”

To ensure campus-wide representation of faculty, students, and administration in CSN internationalization planning process, in November of 2006 the President’s Cabinet approved establishment of the Advisory Council on International Education, which serves as the major policy recommending body for internationalizing the disciplines and creation of faculty exchanges and study abroad program at CSN.

During January 27-28, CSN had the pleasure to host visitors from the Zhuhai College of Jilin University in China. President Wang Yuanliang, Assistant Dean Sun Qiaoyun, and International Project Coordinator Fu Yu met with Dr. Richards, Dr. Campo, Dean Kelly and faculty members from the Department of Hospitality Management to discuss faculty exchanges and future collaboration. CSN faculty members Dr. Terry Jones and Professor Ken Umland have taught at the Zhuhai College. The visitors also met with Dean Moormann and Rebecca Metty-Burns from the Division of Workforce and Economic Development. Many thanks for Dr. Jones and Professor Umland for arranging a productive and enjoyable program for our visitors.
