CAPE would like to highlight the following resources that are available to faculty at the College of Southern Nevada.
The Online Teaching Certificate is designed for teachers, administrators, home schoolers, college faculty, and educators from other training institutions who are interested in making online teaching an important part of their academic career. The certificate is also designed for those who wish to take on a leadership role in online learning at their institutions.
CSN is continuing our partnership with Smarthinking to offer free academic support to all CSN students. SMARTHINKING has the online tutoring, online writing services, and homework help services that help students succeed. Tutors are available up to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in a variety of subjects. SMARTHINKING provides online tutoring in Mathematics (Basic Skills - Calculus II), Writing, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology, Accounting, Economics, Introductory Finance, Spanish and Statistics Smarthinking's Online Writing Lab helps students at secondary, post-secondary, and graduate levels become stronger writers.
The Faculty E-Alert warning system allows faculty to identify students early in the term that may benefit from contact by Retention Services. By using the system you could alert Retention Services of a student who has not been attending class, has demonstrated a need for skills development, or is showing other signs of failure. The Faculty Senate is a representative body responsible for faculty participation in planning, development and governance of the College. Members of the Senate are elected faculty members from all academic divisions as well as representation from the administrative faculty. The Senate Office is on the third floor of the D building at the West Charleston office.
The Career Services Center offers career exploration and job search assistance to students and community members. The Center helps students define career goals through computerized assessments & career exploration activities. In partnership with Nevada JobConnect and the Nevada Department of Employment Security, the Center provides job search services as well as access to employment training programs. The Center can also help secure guest speakers and internship possibilities. Our staff can also provide workshops based on career subjects.
The College of Southern Nevada makes every effort to make its campuses fully accessible to students with disabilities. The college's Disability Resource Center offers special accommodations to help students with documented disabilities with their academic and vocational pursuits. In addition, the DRC offers three full-time Disability Specialists to answer any questions or help solve any problems that may arise due to a documented disability. The office also offers adaptive equipment to those who qualify to ensure equal access to all CSN sponsored activities.
The CSN Library page for faculty offers information on library instruction sessions and workshops, how to place materials on reserve, how to suggest materials to be added to campus library collections, tips on class assignments requiring library resources, faculty research and using library database from home, and interlibrary loan information.
The CSN Office of Assessment provides comprehensive support for programmatic assessment at CSN. Serving all Offices and Divisions within Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, CSN Assessment coordinates the following assessment activities for the College:
- Oversight of assessment plan and report development, maintenance and cataloguing
- Designs and conducts training related to all aspects of assessment, including assessment planning and reporting and instrument design on a regular basis and by request
- Assistance with design, development, deployment, and analysis of homegrown assessment projects and results
- Assistance with deployment and analysis of national benchmark assessment projects and results
- Representation on regional and national assessment boards and knowledge communities
- Dissemination of College assessment results throughout the College, regionally and nationally
