As the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) is committed to student learning and the highest quality of educational experiences, this office supports faculty and staff with teaching and learning strategies and the assessment of student learning. The Cornerstone of CSNs Program Assessment of Student Learning (PAL) is the trilogy of Plan, Perform, and Improve.
All programs and certificates of achievement have multi-year plans. Through the use of direct evidence of student performance or learning, data is collected and reviewed with assessment of student learning conversations that lead to continuous improvement opportunities. Results are shared annually in an Assessment of Student Learning Report. This systematic review includes the components (Plan, Perform, Improve) of Assessment of Student Learning Plans.
The Office of Assessment of Student Learning’s three year strategy (2012-2014) is to facilitate and support faculty with authentic assessment in the institution’s assessment of student learning practices. This begins with Program Outcomes that indicate what students are expected to learn prior to graduation (Year 1). With current and measureable program outcomes, Year 2 will focus on Course Competencies and Year 3 on General Education. This strategy has provided guidance as programs and certificates of achievements developed multi-year assessment of student learning plans.
