Even though loan periods vary, all patrons, including faculty, are only guaranteed a loan period of two weeks, after which books are subject to recall if needed by another CSN or university affiliated patron. Holds and recalls may be placed on books at each campus circulation desk. All books borrowed from CSN Libraries MUST be returned to one of the CSN Libraries, OR to the UNLV Lied Library. Books returned to Clark County libraries will remain charged to your library card until they reach one of the CSN Libraries, and you will be responsible for fees assessed on overdue materials. Books cannot be renewed by phone. You must come in with the books and your library card to any CSN Library circulation desk, OR you may renew your books online via the CSN Online Catalog (choose the View Your Circulation Record option). You may not renew a book if another patron has placed a hold on it.
Fines and Lost Books - General Information
Fines are assessed on overdue books at $.20 per day, per item to a maximum of $5.00 per item. CSN Libraries have a two day grace period in which patrons may return library books. If items are not returned within this two day period, fines will begin from the first day the item is overdue, but we will not send a bill for a fine which is less than $1.00. When a book is overdue more than 28 days, it will be declared lost, and you will be charged the replacement cost of the book plus a non-refundable $5.00 processing fee. Fines on recalled books which are not returned by the new due date on the recall notice will be assessed at the rate of $2.00 per day, per item, with no maximum.
Overdue reserve materials are charged at the rate of $.50 per hour, per item for 2-hour materials, and $2.00 per day for 3-day and 7-day materials.
Overdue audio-visual materials are charged at the rate of $.50 per hour, per item.
Patrons with outstanding charges or overdue books will lose their library privileges and students will be placed on "REGISTRAR HOLD" with the Bursar's Office. Diplomas or transcripts will not be released and you will not be able to register for classes until these charges are cleared from your record.
NOTE: Notices are mailed out only as a courtesy. If you do not receive a notice, you are still responsible for returning overdue library books and/or payment of any fees or fines incurred. It is your responsibility to notify the library of any address changes, so that you may receive notification of overdue materials or fines owed.
If You Cannot Find a Book in the Library...
ask for assistance at the Circulation or Reference Desk. If the book has been checked out, you may place a hold on it at the Circulation Desk. The book will be recalled, if necessary, and held for you. You will be notified by telephone when the book is available. If we can't reach you by telephone, we will mail you a notice. We will hold the book for you for seven days from the time we notify you. If a book that is supposed to be on the shelf cannot be located, you may complete a SEARCH REQUEST form at the Circulation Desk, and an in-house search will be initiated. You will be notified when the book is located or if the book cannot be found.
