LAS VEGAS, Aug 24, 2009 — Southern Nevada business leader Kenneth Goodrich established the J. Duncan Goodrich Air Conditioning Technology Endowment today at the College Southern Nevada.
Kenneth Goodrich created the endowment to honor his father, J. Duncan Goodrich, a pioneer in Southern Nevada air conditioning sales and repair.
The $100,000 endowment will be used to provide scholarships and equipment for the CSN Air Conditioning Technology Program.
The gift was announced and a check presented to CSN Foundation Executive Director Jacque Matthews and Applied Technologies Department Chair Dennis Soukup at the college’s convocation opening ceremony today.
"I am very happy to honor my father’s legacy. The CSN program consistently provides our industry's current and future employees with crucial training and highly desirable skills. Through this donation, we will see continued growth of classroom instruction and equipment. This project will help our customers continue to receive the high quality air conditioning services they deserve and provide people, who work in this field, the opportunity to train and learn the newest technologies,” Kenneth Goodrich said.
CSN will name the air conditioning technology laboratory, located at the Henderson campus, to honor J. Duncan Goodrich’s long time commitment to education and training for air conditioning technology careers.
“I was honored to work with Duncan Goodrich and held him in the highest respect,” Soukup said. “We are extremely appreciative to Kenneth Goodrich and his family for their outstanding support of the air conditioning technology program. Our students and faculty will benefit greatly from this generous gift.”

The Air Conditioning Technology Program has national accreditation by the Partnership for Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Accreditation. The program provides students with classroom instruction on theory, design, and applications, and extensive laboratory instruction using equipment fault simulators, computerized trainers, and actual equipment representative of units encountered out in the field (air conditioning units, heat pump units, gas heating units, ice machines, walk-in refrigeration and freezer units, etc.). The program regularly schedules guest lecturers from industry representatives on the latest innovations and practices in the field.
