Kazakhstani Judges To Visit CSN

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 19, 2009 — The College of Southern Nevada is pleased to announce that four Kazakhstani judges will visit the Charleston campus on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 8:30 a.m. as part of the Open World Program at the Library of Congress. 
This is the second year that judges have come to CSN to view the law library and learn about legal programs offered at the college. 
Judge Lloyd George and the Fremont Rotary are the local hosts for the judges. Dr. Linda Miller, CSN education part-time instructor and a member of the planning committee for Judge George and Dr. Clarissa M. Cota, chairwoman of the Business Administration Department and Paralegal Studies Program coordinated the activities. The judges are Akhmetbek Bezhekenov, Togzhan Shapakhova, Lyaylya Takisheva, and Roza Zhakudina. 
Since its founding by Congress in 1999, the Open World program has enabled more than 14,000 current and future Eurasian leaders to experience American democracy, civil life and community life.
The goal’s of the Open World are to build mutual understanding between the United States and participating countries, to create a network of emerging Eurasian leaders dedicated to affecting positive change in their home countries.
The judges will be here from Oct. 17-24. They have toured Red Rock Canyon and Spring Mountain ranch with Dr. Miller, participated in briefings at all levels of courts and at other government entities, engaged in cultural events and presented their own views at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Boyd School of Law.
