Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program:

Loans made through this program are referred to as FFEL Loans. Private lenders provide funds that are guaranteed by the federal government. FFEL Loans include subsidized and unsubsidized FFEL Stafford Loans, FFEL PLUS Loans and FFEL Consolidation Loans. You repay these loans to the bank or private lender that made you the loan.

As a FFEL applicant, there are two key points to remember. First, the federal government is guaranteeing repayment to the bank you choose.  Therefore, your personal credit is not considered, unless you want to borrow as a dependent student’s parent, and you get the lowest available interest rate. Second, as a student borrower, you can finish your education before you are required to begin repayment on your FFEL Stafford loans.  You should notify your bank immediately when you drop below half-time, withdraw, or graduate (whichever comes first).

Borrowing today may make it easier for you to attend CSN, but you shouldn’t forget that you have to repay your loan. Failure to meet your repayment obligations could result in your loan(s) being declared delinquent or in default that will cause negative consequences for your future financial creditworthiness.  The college recommends you only borrow what you need and are comfortable with, knowing your future will be impacted by required student loan repayments.

Eligibility is based upon federal program requirements and institutional policy standards including a completed financial aid file, Loan Entrance Counseling, compliance with satisfactory academic policy requirements, and having declared a major.

The College of Southern Nevada respects the borrower’s right to choose any bank, or financial institution, as their student loan lender.   We will process your loan as quickly as we are administratively able to regardless of the lender you choose.  When choosing to borrow a student loan, realize the processing of the loan requires collaboration between you, the college, the bank, and the guarantee agency.

Listed (alphabetically) below are several lenders that have funded CSN student loans in the past.   We do not endorse or recommend them, but recognize these lenders as meeting their obligations as a partner in the CSN student loan process:  We recommend that you check their websites for the most up-to-date benefit information.
