The College of Southern Nevada Fine Art Gallery is pleased to present “Spillover Heaven” featuring a collection of mixed media paintings by Las Vegas artist Orlando Montenegro.
The flow of blood within the human body and the movement of water throughout the land give a sense of being separate but they are linked by some shared physical effects, or even involved in some un-nameable totality. Montenegro’s work merges the figure and landscape through a combination of painting and drawing, which results in abstract representations that distort the line separating the body and its environment.
Montenegro generates compositions analogous to networks and systems through the incorporation of shapes and line related to the body. Artificial landscapes, topography, and microcosms are brought to mind through the use of intentional and less controlled motifs such as paint puddles or drips and the disfiguration of shape and line.
Montenegro is interested in the dissolution of boundaries and the integration of forms that indicate continuity in all creation. And further, in discovering a visually seductive scene the artist attempts to sort out a tangle of visual information consisting of linear orders and rhythms.
