Firearm / Shooting on Campus
POTENTIAL FOR SHOOTING EMERGENCY:
If a person with any type of firearm is observed or reported in the vicinity of the school:
1. Immediately notify CSN Police (651-7911) who will contact emergency 911.
2. Move students and staff from the area to classroom in a quiet and orderly fashion.
3. Lock classroom doors and instruct students to sit on classroom floor away from doors and windows.
4. Do not release students for any reason unless authorized by on-site police or school administrator.
IF AN ACTUAL SHOOTING OCCURS:
1. Immediately notify CSN Police (651-7911) who will contact emergency 911.
2. Instruct students to lie down prone on the ground or floor, away from doors and windows.
3. Cover heads with hands.
3. Instruct students not to bunch up in groups.
4. Lock classroom doors.
5. Do not release students for any reason unless authorized by on-site police and school administration.
6. Do not open classroom doors to anyone requesting entry unless authorized by on-site police or school administration.
FOLLOWING A SHOOTING EVENT:
1. Check immediate area for injured students and staff.
2. Stabilize injured to the extent possible;
a. stop bleeding
b. check vital functions
c. prevent shock
3. Move students to a safe location and perform student/staff head count and identify missing persons to the extend possible
AFTER EMERGENCY:
If evacuation is necessary, consider the following
1. Maintain control of students and move to the nearest safe location away from the hazardous event.
2. Dismiss or return students and staff to class as directed by college administration and Human Resources.
3. Contact Counseling & Psychological Services (651-5518) to aid in counseling students.
