Future Students

 

The Peer Ambassador Program is managed by the Office of Recruitment in the Department of Recruitment, Retention and Tutoring. Peer Ambassadors serve as college liaisons by giving presentations, participating on panels and being a resource for prospective students. As a Peer Ambassador, you'll be assigned specific high schools in the Las Vegas area. You'll visit each assigned high school during the fall and spring semesters, and maintain relationships with prospective students throughout the year.

An academic year: Fall and Spring semesters.

Ideal Candidate

A friendly, articulate and outgoing student committed to help reach out to and advise prospective students interested in CSN. Candidates should have a positive attitude and be willing to share their experiences as a CSN student.

Responsibilities
Under the direction of the program coordinator and assigned campus supervisor, Peer Ambassadors will:
  • Assist in the delivery of outreach programs and services targeting underrepresented populations
    and promote CSN as the College of First Choice throughout local schools and the community.
  • Provide peer-advising services for high school students.
  • Develop workshops and presentations for high school, junior high, and elementary school
    students in conjuction with the program coordinator.
  • Represent CSN during college nights, orientations, school visits, and other informational
    programs.
  • Lead campus tours.
  • Assist as needed in the planning and/or implementation of special activities.
  • Within provided guidelines, follow up with prospective or newly admitted students to ensure a
    smooth transition into CSN.
  • Assist in the Student’s First Kiosk during registration periods and semester startups.
  • Participate in leadership workshops and in-service training as scheduled.
  • Attend mandatory monthly staff meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Application Requirements

To be eligible for the Peer Ambassador position, you must:

  • Be a CSN student enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits or a first-time CSN student who intends
    to enroll in a minimum of 6 credits.
  • Be in good academic standing (maintaining at least a 2.5 GPA cumulative and per semester).
  • Be available to work at least two 4-hour shifts per week, between 8am and 1pm, during the fall
    and spring semesters. Volunteers should be available to work two 4-hour shifts per month.
  • Commit to the program for an academic year.
  • Be available to attend all training and monthly meetings.
  • Must be willing to provide assistance and be able effectively relate with people of diverse
    cultural, social, and educational backgrounds.
  • Desire and ability to learn CSN’s policies, procedures and programs.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team-oriented environment.
  • Proven leadership skills and initiative to go above and beyond minimal expectations.
  • Strong desire to enthusiastically promote CSN as the “College of First Choice”.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality with a strong sense of pride in CSN.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to relate well to high school students.
  • Valid Nevada driver's license and personal transportation.
  • Fluency in a language other than English.
  • Financial Aid Work Study student.
Compensation
