The College of Southern Nevada is honoring one of its best athletes ever to come through its baseball program.
Sean Kazmar, who played at shortstop for two seasons at CSN, will have his No. 4 jersey retired prior to the start of the CSN vs. Yavapai College (Ariz.) game this Saturday.
Kazmar is the first ever Coyote baseball player to wear a major league uniform, and it is with great dignity that CSN will retire his number. After the 2009 season, no CSN player will ever dawn No. 4 again.
Kazmar is a 2002 graduate of Las Vegas High. At CSN, he was a member of the 2003 national championship team, hitting .359 with 88 hits, 66 runs, 16 doubles and 22 stolen bases as a freshman that year. He went on to play at Georgia on a full-ride scholarship before going pro. Kazmar was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 5th round of the 2004 Major League Baseball draft, and made his major league debut last Aug. 13 against the Milwaukee Brewers. He recorded a base hit in his first at-bat.
"He is the best player that I have ever coached, and definitely the best player to have come through CSN," says head coach Tim Chambers.
The pre-game ceremony will take place at approxmiately 11:50 a.m. Saturday.
