The College of Southern Nevada baseball team had been struggling on defense and pitching for most of the season. But if you saw the Coyotes play the College of Southern Idaho on Saturday, it would be hard to believe that they had been a struggling team.
Chase Bradford tossed a complete-game, one-hit shutout to lead CSN to an 8-0 win in the first game of the Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader at Morse Stadium. The Coyotes won the second game, 1-0.
Bradford (1-1) retired the final 19 batters he faced, allowing no walks while striking out three. Ryan Thomas was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Trevor Kirk went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Scott Dysinger and Josh Demello each had two hits for CSN (11-9, 3-1 SWAC).
In the second game, Marvin Campbell singled in Dysinger in the fourth inning for the game's lone run, lifting the Coyotes to victory.
CSI (7-10, 1-3) threatened to score in the sixth with the bases loaded and one out, but reliever Kenny McDowall was able to get the Golden Eagles to pop-up to second base and fly out to right field to get out of the jam.
Dysinger was 2-for-3 to lead the limited offense. Chasen Shreve (3-0) threw four innings to get the win.
The Coyotes hit the road next week and head to Carson City to take on their in-state rivals – Western Nevada College – next Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats are ranked No. 24 on the NJCAA preseason Top 30 poll.
