Chasen ShreveAfter being swept by Western Nevada College 2-0 and 7-4 in Friday's doubleheader, CSN head coach Tim Chambers proclaimed that Saturday was "a new day."

Indeed it was a new day, as the College of Southern Nevada baseball team put the offense together in Game 1 and turned up the defense and pitching in the second game to sweep the Wildcats 8-5 and 5-1 at Morse Stadium.

Western Nevada built a 3-0 lead after the first inning of Game 1, but the Coyotes chipped away at the lead, finally taking a 7-3 lead after putting together a five-run fourth inning.  CSN (13-11, 5-3 Scenic West Athletic Conference) added another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Thomas that scored Robbie Garvey.

The Wildcats (12-8, 6-2 SWAC) threatened in the sixth inning with two runs, but they would not threaten again.

Scott Dysinger and Matt Jaimes each went 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Garvey and Trevor Kirk each went 2-for-4 for the Coyotes.

Chase Bradford (2-1) earned the win, walking two and striking out four in 5 1/3 innings of work.  Gentry Croft closed out the game to earn his second save of the season.

Western Nevada WildcatsIn the nightcap, Chasen Shreve (4-0) held the Wildcat offense at bay, allowing just one run on three hits while walking two and striking out seven to lift CSN to victory.

The Coyotes pulled away by adding three insurance runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead into the final inning.  WNC had one last threat with one out and the bases loaded in the seventh, but CSN turned a 1-2-3 double play to end the game and secure the sweep.

Joe Glavin went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the offense in Game 2.

The Coyotes hit the road next week for Rangely, Colo., as they take on Colorado Northwestern Community College with doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday.  The games will not be broadcast on the internet.
