Awards and Achievements of the Faculty

Congratulations to CSN Professor Terri Jones.

Ms. Jones was the recipient of the CSN Green Initiatives Award which was presented by CSN President Mike Richards during 2011/2012 Fall Convocation. 

Congratulations to Karyn Palladino, the Department of Hospitality Management's Administrative Assistant.

Ms. Palladino was presented with the Career Achievement Award as a part of the Women of Excellence program. Karyn's 28 years of dedication, committment and contribution to CSN has been an integral part of the department's ongoing success.
 

Dr. Silver-Rodis received the 2010 Presidents Award for Excellence in Community Service for her many contributions to CSN and the greater Las Vegas Valley.  Professor Vivienne Sario was nominated for the Distinguished Faculty Award and Instructor Michelle Scher was nominated for the Excellence in Service award. 

Congratulations to CSN Chef Steve Soltz.

Chef Steve Soltz has won the 2010 American Culinary Federation of Las Vegas Chef of the Year award. Chef Soltz was recognized by the ACF chapter at their annual awards dinner at the M Resort on June 13. 

Congratulations to CSN Chef John Metcalfe.

Chef Metcalfe orchestrated a 5-star menu of the President's Inaugural Retirees Luncheon honoring those individuals who were leaving CSN at the end of the 2010/2011 year. Dr. Gillian Silver-Rodis co-chaired the event.

Chef John Metcalfe was named the Las Vegas 2009 Chef of the Year on Sunday, June 28, at the American Culinary Federation, Las Vegas Chapter’s Chef of the Year award ceremony held at the Palms. Chef Metcalfe is the 39th Chef of the Year and the third CSN Culinary Arts Program chef to be honored by the ACF

 

 

Congratulations to CSN Professor Lonnie Wright.

Professor Wright has advanced to his competency exams in his matriculation efforts towards his doctorate from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Congratulations to Professor Wright for his humanitarian work in Cuba after sever hurricanes devastated the region. Professor Wright has also been honored with an appointment to the Governors’ Commission on Corrections for his work with youth offenders developing their culinary and horticulture skills. 

 

 

 

Dr. Silver-Rodis published a chapter in The Refractive Thinker: Research Methodology on qualitative inquiry as a legitimization of lived experience.

Dr. Silver-Rodis received the 2010 Women of Excellence Award for her continued outstanding performance in academics and community service.  Professor Terry Jones and Instructor Michelle Scher were also among the distinguished female faculty nominated at the 2010 Women of Excellence awards luncheon held at Russell's Restaurant on the Cheyenne Campus.

Dr. Gillian Silver-Rodis, has received the College of Southern Nevada Woman of Achievement Faculty Award.  The honor recognizes Silver's contributions to the academic community and to greater Las Vegas, and her continuous mentorship of learners and young professionals. Previously, Dr. Silver-Rodis was named Communicator of the Year by IABC, Woman of Distinction by NAWBO, and received the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Community Achievement/Communications designation.

Congratulations to CSN Professor Joseph Quagliano.

The Distinguished Service Award was presented to Professor Quagliano in appreciation for superior service to the International Food Service Executives Association at their annual convention April 2009. In addition the Knights of Columbus Supreme Deputy for the State of Nevada reappointed Professor Quagliano, Past Grand Knight, to server as State Director of Family Activities for the fraternal year 2009-2010. Professor Quagliano was also reappointed for the fifth consecutive year by the International Food Services Executives Association as International Scholarship Chairman for their IFSEA Worthy Goal Scholarship Program.

Congratulations to CSN Professor Vivienne Sario.

Professor Sario was nominated for Online Instructor of the Year and has won the CSN International Educator Award for her outstanding commitment to the growth and success of our International Student Population. CSN applauds Professors Sario for her exceptional efforts. Professor Sario previously won the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Community Award in Tourism and was nominated for the Regents’ Award for Outstanding Teacher.

 

Congratulations to CSN Professor Terry Jones.

Dr. Jones spent the summer as a university professor in the People's Republic of China.
