Are You Interested in a Career in Law Enforcement?

  • Graduates will receive 33 Criminal Justice credits and a Category 1 diploma which is approved by the Nevada POST Committee.  The POST certificate is good for two years from the date of graduation.
  • Program is full-time, Monday through Friday (0730 X 1730 hours) for twenty-two weeks.
  • Graduates from the program are currently working as law enforcement officers in many different law enforcement agencies in the State of Nevada.
  • Tuition costs are at the current rate for thirty-three college credits, required registration fees, and appropriate automobile insurance as mandated by the UCSN for non-affiliated students.
  • Interested non-affiliated applicants must pass a written exam and an oral board, background check as administered by a participating police department, psychological test, and the Nevada POST physical agility test. (See link below)
  • A letter from a physician stating that the candidate is physically qualified to participate in the rigors of the academy must be presented upon enrollment.
  • Must possess a Nevada Carry Concealed Weapon (CCW) Permit. Permit must be for one of the authorized academy firearms.

The Southern Desert Regional Police Academy is a consortium between the Henderson Police Department, the North Las Vegas Police Department and the College of Southern Nevada.

 

There is currently no plans to have an academy class until at least August 2011.  No appointments for interviews are being accepted at this time.
