What is Tech Prep?
- A CSN program which places high school students on the pathway to earning an Associates Degree or Certificate from CSN by allowing them to earn college credit for select Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes while still in high school. These elective courses are a part of technical skill building, Programs of Study and are taught at the high school by high school teachers.
What is the CSN Tech Prep service area?
- CSN Tech Prep serves all high schools in Clark, Lincoln and Nye County School Districts.
What do students get?
- Students get CSN college credits for qualifying courses taken at their high school.
Which courses qualify?
- Over 90 high school CTE courses ranging from Accounting, Computer Science, Criminal Justice to Hospitality Management. For a complete list by school district click on your school district in the LINKS section. Articulation agreements are reviewed annually and may change from year to year.
How many college credits can students earn?
- Students can earn up to 21 college credits.
Do students have to be Juniors or Seniors to be eligible for credit?
- No, all high school students are eligible. However, if a 9th or 10th grade student enrolls in an eligible course they must continue in the course sequence in their 11th or 12th grade to qualify for CSN credit.
What is the cost?
- There is no cost to students. It is FREE!
What is the catch?
- Good grades! Only students that receive an A or B grade, both semesters, will qualify to receive CSN credit through the Tech Prep Program.
When can students apply?
- Applications are accepted from Juniors and Seniors ONLY. Applications from 9th and 10th graders are not accepted because they must first demonstrate a continuation of the course sequence in their junior or senior year.
Request for Tech Prep Credit forms
- The Tech Prep applications are called REQUEST FOR TECH PREP CREDIT forms. They are distributed to the student by the high school teacher teaching the Tech Prep eligible course late Fall semester/early Spring semester. They can also be found on the Tech Prep website. Each high school has a customized form which lists all eligible courses taught at the school.
What is the application deadline?
- Juniors and seniors must submit their Request for Tech Prep Credit forms to their teachers in the Spring semester. This year's deadline is March 2, 2012. Late applications are not accepted.
What Happens After I Enroll?
- At the end of the semester, your high school teacher will submit your final grade for the Tech Prep eligible course to the Tech Prep Office.
- Students who received an A or B grade, both semesters, for the course will have those grades recorded in their CSN student records by the end of the summer term.
-
Once the student’s grades are posted, students will be able to view their unnoficial transcripts through their MyCSN student portal. If they are not planning on attending CSN they will also be able to request official transcripts from the CSN Registrar’s Office. Complete information can be found at the Registrar’s CSN’s Transcript Information webpage.
