Returning Students

Millions of adult students successfully return to college to obtain a degree. Your motivation might be: Career advancement or change; to complete a degree you began years ago; to learn about a particular area of interest. Returning students often have numerous responsibilities to consider when making the decision. These responsibilities can include marriage, children, work, community obligations, or care of elderly parents. The time and commitment needed to complete a degree program and balance these responsibilities can be a challenging.

The good news is going back to college has never been easier. CSN offers returning students many services; childcare centers on campuses, flexible course scheduling with classes being taught one day a week. Online courses are readily available. Whatever the reason for returning to college, CSN is here to assist you.

• Where can I find out about financial assistance to help with tuition?

  All applicants are encouraged to apply for financial aid. The FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Aid) and CSN Scholarship Application should be completed as soon as possible. 

• How can I receive college credit for life experiences or knowledge obtained on a previous job, military or non-accredited program?

  A person can take the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) or Dantes Subject Standardized Tests (DSSTs ) for military personnel; contact CSN's Testing Center for scheduling and fee information. Non-Traditional Education Credit may be awarded to a student primarily for training and instruction received at a non-accredited institution, academy or seminar and in unusual circumstances for work experience.

• Where can I find a list of classes offered?

  A list of course offering can be located at CSN Schedule Lookup. Each Degree or Certificate Program has required course work and a set of general education requirements to earn a degree. Students can visit the Counseling Department or access counselors online through chat to assist in the selection of courses.

• How do I transfer credits from another institution?

  Request official transcripts from all previous colleges/universities that you have attended, to send official transcripts to CSN and complete the Transfer Credit Evaluation form and submit to the Registrar after your official transcripts have been received at CSN.

• Where Can I find information on high demand occupations and help with my employment options?

  CSN’s Career Services offers career exploration and job search assistance to students and community members. The Center helps students define career goals through computerized assessments & career exploration activities. Type Focus is the centers’ newest tool to help a student in assessing their personality type and career choices. The center also offers a Re-Entry Program to provide assistance to students facing significant barriers to education and/or employment.
