Benefits of Microsoft Exchange 2010
A significant portion of email users use Microsoft Exchange Server to support their daily business operations with email, voicemail, calendaring, contacts and more. The major improvements in 2010 are aimed at scalability and availability. The browser-based access to Exchange has been updated with new features, including full support for Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. Other features include side-by-side calendar viewing and conversation placement for threaded messaging.
The new Webmail Access (OWA) is welcomed as it includes a wide array of options that previously required the use of the full-blown Microsoft Outlook application. Exchange 2010 features new updates to already premiered functions, making it a relatively minor update for the end-users. We have outlined some of the new features and key benefits of Microsoft Exchange 2010 below.
New Features of Microsoft Exchange 2010
-
High-Availability
The Database Availability Groups (DAG) allows designation of multiple servers to host copies of individual databases, which are no longer server-specific. With Exchange 2010, failures will only affect single databases, as opposed to entire servers containing multiple databases.
-
Voice Mail Transcription
In addition to receiving a voice mail message as an email attachment, Exchange 2010 users will also receive their voice mails in text form via the use of a speech recognition program.
-
Personal Mail Archive
Each user can have two mailboxes – one primary and one archived. This allows users to keep their primary mailboxes organized and uncluttered.
Key Benefits to Microsoft Exchange 2010
-
Seamless Mobile Access
Exchange 2010 can support the extension of emails, calendars and contacts to a variety of Smartphone (including Windows mobile devices, BlackBerry, Android, and Apple products), which reduces the need for third-party mobile packages.
-
Enhanced Security
Exchange 2010 has increased spam-filtering capabilities. Exchange’s default connection to Outlook creates a secure connection between the Outlook client and the Exchange server, meeting and surpassing the most stringent security requirements.
-
Simplified Compliance
With Exchange 2010, we can delegate a new Web-based multi-mailbox search capability to a specialist user, such as a security compliance officer, to make the e-discovery process easier and more centralized.
