Center For Academic & Professional Excellence (CAPE)

Working with all College departments, The Center for Academic and Professional Excellence formulates, designs, and coordinates all staff and faculty professional development and training to support the institution’s strategic goals. The purpose of CAPE is to foster innovation in classroom and online teaching, provide opportunities for college service, support College of Southern Nevada internationalization by promoting participation in international education programs and initiatives, develop and coordinate leadership training, and support development of organizational culture that improves institutional effectiveness, efficiency, and accountability.

Eligibility:

All CSN faculty, administration and classified staff with supervisor's approval

Services for Faculty & Staff:

  • CSN's Innovation Stream (iStream) Information 
  • Ongoing professional development courses with a schedule published every semester (Spring 2010 CAPE Catalog) 
  • Specialized training for divisions and departments on request
  • Hands-on, instructor-led workshops on MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint), and other software applications
  • Hands-on, instructor-led faculty workshops on Angel for Online & Traditional Course Development
  • Customer Service Training
  • Leadership Skills Training
  • Ethics Training
  • Classroom Management
  • Innovation's in Teaching and Learning
  • Webpage Development
  • Informal Brown Bag Sessions
  • Web 2.0 Training
  • Provision of technical and professional guidance to faculty who are proposing courses through the curriculum development process.
CSN is a proud member of the North American Council of Staff, Program, and Organizational Development (NCSPOD), an affiliate council of the American Association of Community Colleges http://www.ncspod.org . NCSPOD's 2010 annual international conference "Many Faces, Many Voices" will take place in Vancouver, Canada in October, and provides faculty and staff opportunities to share knowledge and experiences in professional development.
