Dual Credit Description

Dual credit can be earned for college or university courses that are not currently offered at the student's school of enrollment or during Clark County School District summer school. These courses may count for required or elective high school credit. A three (3)-credit university course equals one-half (½) unit of Clark County School District credit. Refer to the Early Studies Program list in this section for UNLV/CSN approved courses.

The Process
  • Complete the External Credit application (CCF-850) for each ½ credit and have it signed by the student, parent, counselor, and administrative designee. See sample on next page. During the student/counselor pre-approval meeting, a determination is made of which high school course will be assigned the dual credit for the college level course.
  • The appropriate UNLV or CSN application must be completed, and fee payments must be made.

UNLV requires completion of the Early Studies Contract, junior/senior status (with exceptions), and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Students interested in taking English or math must have completed either the ACT or SAT. In addition, there is a Chemistry placement exam for Chemistry courses.

CSN requires completion of an Early Studies form and a Math/English Placement Exam. The Placement Exams are given free of charge in the Testing Centers and Testing Sites, which are located on all campuses. Call 651-4050 for hours.

Nevada State College - please contact the Office of Admissions and Financial Aide at 992-2000.

  • Upon completion of the course, the student must arrange for a copy of the transcript to be sent or delivered to the counselor who will attach it to the CCF-850 form. The registrar will enter the grade and credit on the transcript.
  • Registrars: Use school location code 998.
  • Questions or extenuating circumstances? Call the Guidance Office at 799-8441 or call UNLV Early Studies, 730-6134 or CSN, 651-4050.

Note: English 101/102 will count as English IV credit except for students enrolled in the Community College High School.

English 100 at the Nevada State College will count for English IV.

Millennium Scholarship Program

In 1999, Governor Kenny Guinn’s Millennium Scholarship initiative was enacted into law by the Nevada Legislature; the legislation (NRS 396.911) created the Millennium Scholarship trust fund to be administered by the State Treasurer. In October, the Board of Regents adopted policy guidelines for the administration of the scholarship.

Although there are a number of pathways to the Millennium Scholarship, by far the most common will be the successful completion of a rigorous program of study at a Nevada high school.
