The son of Jorge and Susana Esquivel, "Pudge" was born in Los Angeles, CA, and began playing baseball at the age of 5. He feels the greatest thrill in sports was when the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the New York Yankees in dramatic fashion in Game 7 of the 2001 World Series. A four year varsity athlete in high school, Jorge was the Southern Nevada Player of the Year his senior season, batting a whopping .613 with 12 home runs and 75 RBIs for the Spartans. He also led Cimarron to the 4A Sunset Regional Championship and a state runner-up finish in 2004.
