In the Bump Up mentoring program, the mentees are given a mentor to guide them in their educational and career choices so the mentee may be successful in their life. When it comes to my education I view it with great importance and consider myself self driven. However, the one thing that I needed is a connection into the criminal justice field because I understand the educational aspect of it but I need guidance on how to be successful in my future carer. Was most excited when I was paired with Judge Hoo. Judge Hoo is a great mentor, I can talk to him as if he was one of my peers, and he provides so much information that I wasn’t made aware of. Recently, I shadowed him in his courtroom to better newsstand the judicial system. Judge Kalani Hoo is a great person and mentor, I plan to use my time wisely with him so I may gain the wisdom I need within the criminal justice field.

My mentor, Santarpia McNeil, is more like a friend who wants nothing but the best for me. For instance, when my grades weren’t what she knew I could earn, she called me and remarked, “You know we have to talk about these grades, right?” The reason being, I had failed a math class for the second time, and I earned less than acceptable grades in my other classes. She asked me to meet with her before the start of the semester, so that we could create a schedule for the upcoming semester. We did this, and I can say, I have been doing better this semester than I have had in any other semester.
