Dr. Sonya Pearson brings nearly two decades of higher education experience to her Vice President & Provost role at the College of Southern Nevada. She joined CSN in 2019 as the leader of the largest of the college’s three campuses, located on West Charleston Boulevard in Las Vegas.
Previously, Dr. Pearson had served students at Mesa Community College in the Maricopa County Community College District in the Phoenix metro area, one of the largest community college systems in the nation, since 2007. She holds a J.D. from Taft Law, a Ph.D. in Organizational Psychology from Walden University, and a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern Oklahoma State University. She is a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Dr. Pearson has overseen enrollment services, student conduct, recruitment, student life and athletics, worked as an adjunct professor, written grants, and served in advisory, management and executive positions. She has vast experience working in multi-campus environments.
Service to the community is her personal mission. In addition to her educational and work experience, she has been involved with the United Food Bank, Red Cross, Relay for Life, Special Olympics, Economic Security, Urban League, Department of Workforce Development, Martin Luther King Committee, Margaret Hudson Alternative School for Pregnant Teens, Boys Home Alternative School, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the United Way.
