College Success ALS 101
CSN is making an investment in student success by offering a FREE, 8-week online course to interested high school juniors and seniors in Southern Nevada. The course is set to begin March 20 and conclude May 14.
College Success (ALS 101) teaches strategies for mastering academic and life success. Course topics include change, goal setting, money, time/priority management; test preparation, note-taking, memory techniques; relationships, communication, listening, wellness, diversity and personal responsibility.
Students will:
- Discuss the factors leading to a successful college experience.
- Locate and utilize campus and community resources.
- Identify and employ active learning strategies.
- Implement effective financial, time/priority, and wellness management strategies.
- Develop a personal higher education and career plan.
If you are a high school junior or senior and are interested in enrolling in a FREE 8-week College Success – ALS 101 course, follow these steps:
- Complete the CSN Admissions Application no later than February 28th
- Complete the ALS 101 Commitment Form no later than March 3, 2023. Students must complete the commitment form to be enrolled in the course.
- Join us for an Orientation for Success and receive your FREE laptop!
- Attend the first day of class on Monday, March 20, 2023!

Yes! Your NSHE student ID number issued from a different institution will be required when you complete the CSN admissions application. If you have never applied to CSN (even though you have the NSHE ID), you MUST apply before we can register you for the course. You can find instructions on how to apply to CSN here
This course is a 3-credit hour, 8-week course, beginning on March 20 and concluding on May 14. Each week you can expect to spend 6 – 9 hours reading required chapters and completing assignments.
Yes! Enrolling at CSN means that you have a large network of resources available to you, including tutoring support, academic advising, library assistance, and so much more. Use this guide to find the support that you need.
This is an online course that will be accessed through your CSN Canvas account. Please make sure that you validate your student account as soon as possible.
All readings and assignments will be completed through Canvas. You will need to be sure to access the class on the starting date to ensure you are aware of assignment deadlines. Also, while most of the class will be asynchronous (you complete work on your own time), there will be 3 – 4 live online sessions that you must log into on a designated day and time. The days and times of the live sessions will be determined by your class.

Yes, but each institution can determine whether or not the credit will be accepted. Once you have completed the course successfully, you can request your official transcript be sent to the institution of your choice. Please check with your desired institution on their transferable course policy.
No – you will stay active in our system for two years, so you will not have to reapply. You will be able to enroll in Summer 2023 courses beginning in April and Fall 2023 courses beginning in May.
