High School and Early College Programs FAQ

CSN High School is a dual credit program designed to provide a smooth transition from high school to college. CSN High School provides a combination of high school and college credits through an agreement between the Clark County School District (CCSD) and the College of Southern Nevada (CSN). There is a CSN High School location on all three CSN main campuses- Henderson (South), North Las Vegas (East), and Charleston (West).

CSN High School is designed for incoming 11th and 12th-grade students who are on track for graduation. Students have to apply and are accepted to attend CSN High School.

CCSD pays the tuition and fees for up to twelve approved CSN credits per semester. Students are responsible for the cost of tuition and fees beyond the twelve credits.

The CTE College Credit Program awards free college credit for high school classes. Eligible high school classes are a part of a CTE high school program which is generally three years of high school classes (Level 1-3).

Our goal is to increase academic opportunities for high school students to obtain college credits in strategic pathways that lead toward meaningful CSN degrees/certificates or transfer education.

There are over 45 CTE programs offered in high schools throughout Nevada, which have been approved for college credit at CSN.

High school students who receive the Nevada Department of Education Certificate of Skill Attainment may qualify for free college classes.

To be eligible you must:

1. Complete an approved CTE high school program sequence with a minimum of 3.0/B grade point average or higher;
2. Pass the state End-of-Program Assessment*; and
3. Pass the state Workplace Readiness Skills Assessment*.

*State assessments are not administered by CSN.

There is no cost to the student for the college classes earned through the program.

High school students are taking high school elective classes within CTE programs which may be eligible for college classes.

CTE College credit gives Nevada students a potential cost saving of approximately $500 per college class (class registration fees & books).

High school students can apply as early as their junior year if they are in the third-level class (e.g. Culinary Arts III). Students do not need to wait for the assessment results to apply. All students have up to three (3) years from their high school graduation to apply.

CSN's Dual Enrollment Program is an opportunity for high school students from participating high schools to enroll in college courses at CSN. Participating high schools collaborate with CSN to align students' academic plans and provide access to courses at a CSN campus taught by CSN faculty. Dual enrolled high school students may also access all resources available to any CSN student.

The Dual Enrollment Program is open to high school students who attend a participating high school. Students enrolling in English or Math Jumpstart courses must qualify by using ACT, SAT, or CSN Placement Test scores.

Students participating in the Dual Enrollment Program are taking college courses at a CSN Campus that are taught by CSN faculty for the full rate of tuition and fees. Students participating in the Jumpstart Program are taking college courses that are taught at their high school by high school instructors who have been certified to teach CSN concurrent enrollment courses. Jumpstart courses are offered at a reduced fee.

1. All students participating in the Dual Enrollment Program are required to complete the High School and Early College Programs Admissions Application. Click HERE to apply. Students will be admitted and will receive their NSHE student ID number within 3-5 days. Instructions to complete the High School and Early College Programs Admissions Application can be found HERE.

2. Once a student has applied and received their NSHE student ID number they will need to validate their CSN student account. After a student has validated their CSN student account, they will be prompted to create a password. This will allow students to log in to GoCSN and access all of their CSN related apps in one place, including MyCSN, CANVAS, ALEKS, Tutoring, CSN Library, CSN Student Email, and more.

Early Studies allows high school students age 16 or older to enroll in courses at CSN in addition to their high school class load to receive college credit.

All high school students 16 or older who are enrolled in a high school or homeschool program in the State of Nevada.

Students taking Early Studies courses are responsible for the full rate of tuition and fees. For a complete list of tuition and fees, click HERE.

1. All students taking early studies classes are required to complete the High School and Early College Programs Admissions Application. Click HERE to apply. Students will be admitted and will receive their NSHE student ID number within 3-5 days. Instructions to complete the High School and Early College Programs Admissions Application can be found HERE.

2. Once a student has applied and received their NSHE student ID number they will need to validate their CSN student account. After a student has validated their CSN student account, they will be prompted to create a password. Tuition Payment Options:

• Pay online with a debit or credit card through MyCSN self-service.
• Pay in person at any Cashier's Office.
• Pay by mail (early enough to arrive prior to the payment due date).

Textbooks are NOT OPTIONAL. They are necessary for you to do well in all college courses. Before the semester starts, find out if you will have to purchase your textbooks for your class or if textbooks will be provided to you. If you do need to purchase your books, take your printed class schedule to a CSN Bookstore. The bookstore staff will tell you which books you need to purchase and which books may be available for rent. You can also order your books online at Follett Live.

The Gifted & Talented Minor Student Program allows minor high school students under the age of 16  to enroll in courses at CSN in addition to their high school class load to receive college credit.

Minors under 16 years of age as of today who wish to enroll at CSN require approval from appropriate institutional officials.  Review and approval are on a case-by-case basis and require the following:

• Submittal of a petition packet to the Office of the Registrar, Attention Bernadette Lopez-Garrett.  The packet may be hand-delivered (Charleston Campus - D Building) or scanned and emailed to us.  The packet cannot be faxed due to readability concerns.  The packet must contain:
  1. Student's NSHE ID number, if available
  • Course(s) listing and section(s)
  • A detailed and thorough parental or guardian letter addressing the child's profoundly gifted intellect, talent, and maturity to take college-level courses
  • Two letters of support from the child's instructor, counselor, academic dean, or principal where he/she normally attends school.  Letters of support must be on school letterhead
  • Child's latest transcript and standardized test scores

The faculty member(s) teaching the class(es), in conjunction with the corresponding academic department chair(s) and academic school dean overseeing said course(s) will assess the minor student's scholastic aptitude and maturity based on guidelines found in the NSHE Regents Handbook, Title 4, Chapter 16.

Please be advised that if, during the course of reviewing applications, it is determined that an applicant is less than 16 years of age as of today, a registration hold preventing all enrollment activity will be placed on the student's account and will remain in place until the student turns 16 or the minor's petition packets for an exception is approved after a thorough review by institutional officials.

The Jumpstart Concurrent Enrollment Program offers college credit courses to high school students at local high schools for a reduced fee of $50 per class, plus applicable technology fees, per credit. The college courses are taught at their high school by high school instructors who have been certified to teach CSN concurrent enrollment courses. The Jumpstart Program gives high school students the opportunity to get an early start on their college career while paying only a fraction of the college tuition.

The Jumpstart Program is open to freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior high school students who attend a participating high school. Students enrolling in English or Math Jumpstart courses must qualify by using ACT, SAT, or CSN Placement Test scores.

No. There is no application fee for high school students participating in the Jumpstart Program.

Students pay their tuition directly to the high school banker. Students do not pay CSN directly.

Students should inquire with their high school about any available scholarships for Jumpstart courses.

Textbooks are FREE to students and will be provided by their high school.

1. Students participating in the Jumpstart Program are required to complete the High School and Early College Programs Admissions Application. Click HERE to apply. Students will receive their CSN issued Nevada State of Higher Education (NSHE) student ID numbers in 3-5 days.

2. Complete the Jumpstart Consent Form. This form requires the electronic signature of the student and the parent or legal guardian. The student's NSHE ID number is required to complete this form.

Your Educational Success (YES) is designed to help 11th and 12th-grade students with disabilities make the transition from high school to a post-secondary educational setting. The YES program is a partnership between the Clark County School District (CCSD) and the College of Southern Nevada (CSN). Students who attend the YES program will have the opportunity to earn three CSN credits and one-half CCSD high school elective credit.

11th and 12th-grade students with disabilities who attend a CCSD high school.

There is no cost for students to participate in this program.

Interested students can get enrollment information from their Teacher of Record, Special Education Facilitator, or Region Transitions Specialist.
