Hospitality Department Faculty Updates for Spring 2015
Casino Management Professor David Hernandez and Food and Beverage Management Professor Joseph Quagliano achieved the honor of being named Emeriti Faculty. Congratulations David and Joe! Thank you for your years of commitment to the students of CSN.
Dr. Gillian Silver authored a peer-reviewed paper that was published by the Mentoring Institute and she presented at the University of New Mexico Symposium (see below for more details).
Professor Lonnie Wright will be honored as a Past UNLV Legend from the first UNLV team to make it to the final four from the 1970's.
Director Vivienne Sario has been hard at work developing new internship opportunities for our students at the Bellagio and Caesars Palace and is now involved with event planning with Zapo's.
Instructor Eileen Metcalfe was named as Food and Beverage Management Program Director.
This spring Instructor Andrew Fanizzi will be completing the necessary course work to become a Certified ServSafe Alcohol Awareness Instructor.
Three Hospitality Faculty Members Honored for Years of Service
At the CSN Fall 2014 Convocation for faculty and staff, Casino Management Professor Mark DiStefano was honored for his five years of service and his achievement of tenure. In addition, Professor Steve Soltz was recognized for ten years of service to CSN. Finally, the Hospitality Department Chair Tom Rosenberger received accolades for his twenty-five years of service to the college.
New Chairman of the Southern Nevada Better Business Bureau from Hotel Management Program
After being nominated by community business leaders William Boyd and Jim Marsh, hotel management professor Lonnie Wright was elected to serve Southern Nevada businesses as the chairman of the Southern Nevada Better Business Bureau.
Hotel Management Professor Receives Three Honors
Dr. Gillian Silver's busy 2013-2014 academic year resulted in three distinguished honors. First, she was nominated for a CSN Excellence Award for online teaching. Second, the National Institute of Staff and Organizational Development choose her as an Excellence Award recipient for demonstrating an outstanding commitment and contribution to students and colleagues. Third, committed to writing and women, Dr. Silver submitted her paper, Developing Talent: mentoring women in the post-secondary education environment, to the University of New Mexico Mentoring Institute and received great praise from the university's peer review committee.
A New Director for the Hotel Management Program
Along with the new semester, the Fall of 2014 brings a new director to the Hotel Management Program. Dr. Terry Jones will lead an outstanding team of faculty as they assist students in achieving the goal of graduation or transfer to University of Nevada Las Vegas.
A New Name for the Travel and Tourism Program
With a rise in career opportunities in the Convention, Meeting and Event Planning segments of the Hospitality Industry, CSN's Travel and Tourism program now emphasizes this growing field. As of the Fall Semester of 2014, the program's title is Tourism, Convention and Event Planning. In addition to a new name, the program has exciting new degree plans: a Certificate of Achievement and an Associate of Applied Science!
