The Department of Physical Sciences prepares students for the next level of education with a solid foundation of student-centered courses in astronomy, chemistry, engineering, environmental science, physical geography, geology and physics. Students in the Physical Sciences Program can use these foundation courses to fine-tune their degree and be well prepared for high-level courses in the physical sciences at a four-year college or university once they graduate from CSN.

Prerequisite Waivers

If you are a student who needs a prerequisite waiver and you took the required course elsewhere, please email the following information to the department chair or department administrative assistant:

  • Your name
  • Your student ID number
  • The course you wish to take
  • The semester you wish to take the course
  • An electronic copy of your unofficial transcript showing the grade you received in the prerequisite course.

Please allow 2 business days for the waiver to be filed. Prerequisite waivers are only good for a single semester, so you may need to file the request again if you choose to retake the course in a future semester. If you completed the prerequisite course at another NSHE school (e.g. UNLV, UNR, NSC, etc.), you may have to file a prerequisite waiver request even if you have submitted your transcripts to the registrar's office.
