CSN Launches ‘Cannabis 101’ Industry Focused Classes

The College of Southern Nevada presents three new courses this spring and summer to help the region’s entrepreneurs navigate the state’s newest thriving industry. “Cannabis 101” will focus on the folklore, history and science behind marijuana, “Green Collar Jobs” will present an overview of the business, regulations, security and customer service involved in working in the marijuana industry, and “Dispensary Customer Service” will teach about products available and how to serve the customer.

Federal Grant Helps CSN Students Access Free Counseling

A new training program at the College of Southern Nevada will help students access free mental health counseling by teaching faculty and staff how to recognize early warning signs of distress in students.

Goettl CEO Donation to CSN Center of Excellence to Support Dual Enrollment Academy Students

The College of Southern Nevada Foundation is pleased to announce that Goettl Air Conditioning CEO Ken Goodrich, his wife Wendy and their son Duncan have established a $250,000 endowment fund through the Goodrich Family Trust intended to help low-income students become world class air conditioning and climate control technicians at CSN’s new state- of-the-art Air Conditioning Technology Center of Excellence.

Henderson City Council Pledges Support for Health & Science Building

The City of Henderson pledged $500,000 to help support the construction of a new College of Southern Nevada and Nevada State College building that promises to reshape health care education in southern Nevada. The Henderson City Council on Tuesday unanimously approved pledging $500,000 to the CSN Foundation in support of a new Health & Science Building, planned to be built on the college’s Henderson Campus. The building will be operated in conjunction with Nevada State College and will allow CSN to nearly double nursing program enrollment and graduates.

CSN High School Student Named Regents’ Scholar

College of Southern Nevada High School student Narée Asherian was named a Nevada System of Higher Education Regents’ Scholar today. Asherian is scheduled to earn both a high school diploma and an Associate of Business degree from CSN this spring. While at CSN High School, Asherian has balanced more than nine college credits per semester, as well as juggling her high school workload. She has maintained a 3.8 grade-point average and plans to transfer to UNLV and earn a bachelor’s degree in business within two years.

CSN Achieves ‘Leader College of Distinction’ Status

The College of Southern Nevada is proud to announce that Achieving the Dream named it one of 11 Leader Colleges of Distinction for its work on improving student success and reducing student achievement gaps.

CSN’s Air Conditioning Students Job-Ready

The College of Southern Nevada’s newly renovated Air Conditioning Technology Center of Excellence will hold its grand opening on March 1. This state-of-the-art facility, located on the campus of Western High School, will allow students to complete their entire associate degree or certificate in one place instead of traveling from campus to campus.

CSN Career Fairs Help Students Prosper

The College of Southern Nevada will soon host its Spring 2019 Career Fairs, where dozens of employers will tap the local talent pool to fill hundreds of job opportunities and internships. The first Career Fair is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. February 13 in the Paul E. Meacham Student Services Building lobby on the college’s Charleston Campus.

CSN Classes Start Next Week, Registration Still Open

More than 30,000 college students will converge on the College of Southern Nevada’s three campuses next week as classes begin Tuesday, January 22, for the spring 2019 semester.

CSN Welcomes Stranded Brightwood College Students

The College of Southern Nevada wants to help former students at Brightwood College complete their degrees. CSN will hold an orientation session for Brightwood students at 9 a.m. Saturday on the Charleston Campus. CSN officials will help former Brightwood students customize plans and offer support services as they try to get their education back on track.

A surge in applications for the Nevada Promise Scholarship at CSN has created a greater-than-ever need for mentors. With applications for the innovative scholarship reaching 10,431 this year, CSN is hoping to recruit as many as 800 additional mentors between now and December 31

CSN Offers Dog-Tired Students a Break

No one knows better than a librarian how much students need a break and a recharge as the semester winds down and final exams loom. Which is why the CSN Libraries have a tradition of inviting a group of cuddly therapy dogs to campus every semester to help students relax. This month, a group of therapy dogs from Love Dog Adventures will visit the libraries on all three CSN campuses.

CSN to Celebrate Successful Culinary Job Training Program

Every semester for the last 21 years, chefs from the College of Southern Nevada’s nationally renowned culinary program have trained a handful of local Salvation Army clients in the art of cooking and preparing food, getting them ready for jobs in Las Vegas’ fast-paced restaurant environment. On Wednesday, the latest group of students who have completed the program will celebrate their accomplishment at a graduation ceremony, to be held at Russell’s Restaurant on CSN’s North Las Vegas Campus. Members of the local media are invited.

Nevada Promise Scholarship Deadline Approaching

High school seniors who want to go to college without having to pay mandatory tuition and fees should apply for the Nevada Promise Scholarship as soon as possible. The application deadline is October 31.

CSN Cybersecurity Fair Highlights Online Threats

The College of Southern Nevada’s nationally renowned cybersecurity program will mark Cybersecurity Awareness Month next week with its first Cybersecurity Fair. The free event will feature computer security experts, CSN’s cybersecurity faculty, hands-on activities and a range of vendors who can offer products, services and insights into what’s being called the modern version of the Wild West.
