This exciting area of healthcare is rising in popularity due to advancements in computer-enhanced technology and miniaturization.

Why Study Diagnostic Medical Sonography at CSN?

The CSN Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program houses two Associate of Applied Science Degrees: General/Vascular Ultrasound Track and Cardiac/Vascular Ultrasound Track. The goal of the General/Vascular Ultrasound Track is to prepare competent entry-level general sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. The goal of the Cardiac/Vascular Ultrasound Track is to prepare competent entry-level adult cardiac sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains.

Graduates of the General/Vascular Ultrasound Track are eligible to take the ARDMS examination to become credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in the abdomen and OB/Gyn specialties. Graduates of the Cardiac/Vascular Ultrasound Track are eligible to take the ARDMS examination to become credentialed as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in the adult echocardiography specialty.

Our program is the only one in Nevada accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS). Because of our CAAHEP status, students are eligible to sit for the examination for certification as Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (RDMS) prior to graduation.

Limited Entry Program

NOTE: The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is a limited entry program. Students must attend a health programs orientation and meet with a health programs advisor for additional counseling prior to application.
