Quick Guide to Understanding the COVID-19 Semester Class Schedule


I. Traditional Online Course Sections
*    These course sections have a section number between 1001 to 1999.
*    These course sections are always taught online.
*    In “Days and Times” it states TBA – this should be understood as “None” – meaning the student should log into Canvas on the first day of classes and read the syllabus.
*    Location is Online Campus, Room is Web-Online Course, and Instruction Method is Web Course.
*    These course sections are charged CSN’s E-Learning Fee.

II. In-Person Course Sections Moved Online with no Days/Times listed
*    These course sections have a section number of 2001 or higher.
*    In “Days and Times” it states TBA – this should be understood as “None” – meaning the student should log into Canvas on the first day of classes and read the syllabus (just like a traditional online course).
*    The Instruction Method states, “In-person moved to online,” Location is Online Campus, and Room is Web-Online Course.
o    These course sections will remain online for the duration of the semester the course is offered.
o    These course sections do not get charged CSN’s E-Learning Fee.
o    These course sections will be reported as “Resident” to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

III. In-Person Course Sections Moved Online with Days/Times Listed
*    These course sections have a section number of 2001 or higher.
*    This type of course section includes a meeting pattern, meaning the Days and Times are listed, thus the student MUST be online on those days at the start time of the course.
*    The student needs to log into Canvas on the first day of classes to find out how they meet online – the instructor chooses from several forms of telecommuting including Big Blue Button, Zoom, MS Teams, or WebEx.  This will usually be either a notice on the homepage of the course in Canvas or could be found within the syllabus of the course.
*    The Location is Remote Learning, Room is Web-remote Course, and Instruction Method is Web Course.
*    These course sections will remain online for the duration of the semester the course is offered.
*    These course sections do not get charged CSN’s E-Learning Fee.
*    These course sections will be reported as “Resident” to the Department of Veterans Affairs.

IV. Hybrid Course Sections
*    Hybrid means the course section meets at least once “In-Person” or “On-Campus” but it could be more, like once per week to meet in-person.  The student will need to click on the course to read the “Notes” to see if there is any information regarding the first day of class and/or how the class will meet.  The student must follow all COVID requirements including wearing a mask for the “In-Person” or “On-Campus” portion of the course.
*    These course sections have a section number of 2001 or higher.
*    The Instruction Method is Hybrid.
*    There are days and times in the “Days and Times” area.
*    These course sections are charged CSN’s E-Learning Fee.

V. In-Person (On-Campus) Course Sections
*    These course sections meet “In-Person” or “On-Campus” for all days/times listed.  The student must follow all COVID requirements including wearing a mask for the “In-Person” or “On-Campus” portion of the course.
*    Some “In-Person” course sections may use the Canvas online system as a supplement to the course.
*    These course sections have a section number of 2001 or higher.
