In a Moment of Danger- Lgbtq+ History and Culture

In a Moment of Danger: CSN LGBTQ+ History Panel presented by CSN Queer Inclusive Campus Committee A panel of presentations from local scholars on the relevance of LGBTQ+ history and culture to our contemporary political moment. Presentations by Dr. Jennifer Basquiat (Anthropology), Dr. Adam Burgess (English), Dr. Joe Hassert (Communication), and Prof. Patricia Vázquez (English). Historian Walter Benjamin describes the work of history in his essay On the Concept of History: "To articulate what is past does not mean to recognize 'how it really was.' It means to take control of a memory, as it flashes in a moment of danger." What memories would LGBTQ+ people and our allies do well to seize as we work our way through this current moment of danger? This panel will partake in the annual ritual of LBGTQ History month, looking to the past to help guide our future. Panelists will take turns sharing their research and study of LGBTQ history and culture followed by a Question and Answer session in which attendees can engage the discussion

To CSN Class of 2020, Join us for a virtual ceremony December 19, 2020 at 1 PM. As we have shared previously, your CSN family is truly disappointed that we haven’t been able to hold our traditional Commencement Ceremony. Despite our best efforts to wait out COVID-19 to be able to celebrate in person, the persistence of the pandemic has proven to be insurmountable. Each 2020 graduate has already been contacted to customize their information for a personal slide and name reading to express themselves and share their accomplishment out with family, friends, and colleagues worldwide! We will share additional information for viewing these slides and attending the live virtual ceremony as things come together, and we look forward to seeing each and every one of you on December 19th to highlight this amazing moment in so many people's lives. Visit www.csn.edu/2020class for the latest news and updates on this event.
