Today is the deadline to apply for the #CSN Foundation Scholarship Application for 2022-2023 Academic Year! More than 120 scholarship opportunities, totaling over $300,000, are available to CSN students. Did you know that students may apply for multiple scholarships by completing one online application and are automatically matched with scholarships for which they are qualified? Each scholarship has its own specific purpose and eligibility criteria according to the recommendations of the donor. If awarded, students will be notified in May and CSN Financial Aid will work to disperse awards to student accounts in Fall 2022. CSN is still seeking mentors for NV Promise scholarship recipients! Did you know the Nevada Promise Scholarship is a unique scholarship established by the Nevada Legislature for Nevada high school graduates to attend community college? As a last-dollar scholarship, the Nevada Promise Scholarship can cover up to three years of tuition and other mandatory fees not covered by other gift aid! Mentors are a critical part of the Nevada Promise Scholarship and a strong support structure is key to help students find success in higher education. Fun Fact Friday from CSN Political Science Prof Don Mirjanian: The concept of the political “left” and the political “right” began in the 1780s, but not in the United States. The practice originally began during the French Revolution in 1789: Supporters of the revolution arranged themselves on the king’s left in the National Assembly, while supporters of the king would be on the right. The practice continued in France, and over the next century, other legislative bodies accepted the organizational practice, and those who held opposing beliefs on the role of the government in society and the national economy would arrange themselves accordingly. If interested in learning more, Professor Mirjanian is teaching Political Science 101 this summer and this fall. He's also teaching PSC 200 – Survey of Political Theory -- in the fall online.

The senseless murder of the openly gay college student helped spark action on federal hate crime legislation-- which at the time, did not include sexual orientation or gender identity.
