The College of Southern Nevada’s 49th Annual Commencement Ceremony is this Saturday, May 15! We are celebrating the Class of 2021 all week long by getting to know some of our graduates. Meet Nathacha Nucamendi a Las Vegas Native graduating with an associate of arts degree and transferring to UNLV to pursue a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management. She worked two full-time jobs, managed remote learning and navigated public transportation during the pandemic to earn her degree. Congratulations Nathacha!

We will miss former Chancellor and higher education advocate Jim Rogers. He was a huge supporter of CSN and all Nevada students. Have you met Dr. Shellie Keller and listened to her inspirational #CSN Story? Dr. Keller joined our CSN family in 1995 as a student and returned in 2005 as a part-time public speaking instructor. She’s now been full-time with CSN since 2006 as a retention specialist for 7 years and director of Centers for Academic Success since 2013. Join us for a community service event as we officially launch our University Legal Services program in partnership with the College of Southern Nevada. The inaugural ceremony (at 5 p.m.) will feature Governor Sisolak, NSHE Chancellor Reilly, CSN President Zaragoza, and UNLV President Meana. This event will feature a DACA renewal workshop, an Ask-a-Lawyer event, and a resource fair with student and community organizations. The first 30 individuals to sign up for the DACA workshop will receive a $495 scholarship to cover their renewal fees. CHWs are frontline public health workers who provide health and social service support to individuals in the community and build community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as community education, counseling and advocacy. Today at 10:00 a.m., University Police Services will be testing all on-campus emergency notification systems, across all College of Southern Nevada campuses, which may include: • SMS text, voice call, and/or e-mail alert. • Posts to campus and/or University Police Services’ Facebook & Twitter pages: @UPDSouth and @CSNCoyote • Desktop computer, public monitors, and VOIP office phone notifications. • CSN MobileSAFETY App push notifications. • An emergency information banner on UPD and/or campus websites. It is important to note that this alert is only a practice drill of the systems and not an actual emergency. In the event of an emergency, these platforms will be used to notify you of the incident and provide information and instructions. In the event of an actual alert, you should seek a safe location and monitor media reports, e-mails, computer monitor screens, and emergency texts.
