Congrats to the CSN ACF Knowledge Bowl team! The group won silver at the American Culinary Federation Western Regional convention in Coeur d’Alene Idaho last week! The competition is a Jeopardy style, double elimination quiz game. The team was coached by Chef Steve Soltz, CHE Chef/Professor and includes Melissa Fried, Amanda Walls, Gerald Cahoon, and Amber Cataloni. The competition includes sensory questions, hidden pictures, and of course challenging culinary, baking, nutrition, sanitation and math questions.

On March 1, College of Southern Nevada will hold the grand opening for the newly renovated Air Conditioning Technology Center of Excellence. For students, this new center is a one-stop shop. All courses will be offered at the center, located on the same campus at Western High School, meaning students won't ever have to leave the center to earn their degree or certificates. Congrats to Jason Isaacs and Edward Reyes, two CSN culinary students who won 1st place in the Las Vegas NEWH Battle of the Green Toque Mystery Basket Competition last week. The competition required the students to prepare two courses in 60 minutes utilizing sustainable ingredients revealed to them just minutes before starting to cook. Four teams representing the culinary programs of The Art Institute of Las Vegas, CSN, Le Cordon Bleu and UNLV faced off in this sustainable culinary extravaganza. Jason and Edward both received individual first place awards as well as a plaque to be displayed at CSN. Thank you to all who supported their efforts and thanks to Andrea Reyes for the photos!

CSN students - we want to make sure you know about a new course refund policy that takes effect this fall. CSN refund procedures for all students that withdraw from a 16-week class: 1) 100% if withdrawal is initiated prior to the end of the first week of instruction; and 2)50% if initiated prior to the end of the second week of instruction; 3) No refund shall be given after the start of the third week of instruction; and 4) No refund shall be given for the application or admission fee.
