Russia is the biggest country in the world, which spans 11 time zones, covers 1/8th of the world’s land surface and is twice the size of the US. Russian is the most widely spoken language in Europe and there are about 270 million Russian speakers in the world. Russian is one of the official languages of United Nations, UNESCO, World Health Organization, International Atomic Energy Agency, Food and Agriculture Organization, International Criminal Court, World Bank and International Olympic Committee to name a few, and it is second most widely used language on the Internet. It is also one of the two official languages aboard the International Space Station and all foreign astronauts or even space tourists must speak Russian. It has been a language of critical national importance to the US government for decades, which has resulted in multiple government-sponsored scholarships and employment opportunities with the FBI, CIA, USDA, Department of Commerce, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Homeland Security, Department of Labor and so on. It is also the language in which numerous world-renowned literature masterpieces have been created. It is the language of Dostoevsky, Pushkin, Gogol, Turgenev, Lermontov, Bulgakov and so many others.
